The Curse of the Bride of Dracula...

...okay, so it's not the most original name, but that's partly the point as I originally wanted this image to hark back to some of the old Hammer vampire films from the 60's and 70's that I love so much.

She is the third in my series of Living Dead Girl characters - I'm planning on making more. When I originally started working on this image (way back) I wanted to create something that had a classic vampire feel to it. Part of it has turned out as I envisioned it and other parts developed more organically during the creation process. There is a lot that could be improved upon but I had to let go at some point otherwise it would never be finished. I'll take what I've learned from this experience, and it's been a lot I must say, and apply that to any future projects.

The final 3000 x 1500 image took around 84 hours to render. I'll possibly create an actual making of sometime in the nearish future, but in the meantime I've created a breakdown (below the finished image).

Until next time...

Latest Showreel!

This is my latest showreel which I can finally reveal. It's an updated version of my older private showreel.  The work in this reel is made up from the past 3 years work whilst I was at MPC and Cinesite. It features some of my work on John Carter, Harry Potter and the Deathly hallows: Part 1, Clash of the Titans, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time and Robin Hood.

She's finally complete!!!

Finally!!!... Bloody finally!! I got around to finishing her! I can't even remember when I actually started working on her. I think it was roughly 3 years ago when I was working on Wolfenstein! I'll admit that she was a real drag to work on at times, especially towards the end. I kept putting her on hold and would pick at her every now and then.

But saying that, I'm mostly happy with her. One or two things here and there that I would have changed or would have like to have tweaked more: her anatomy, the tattoos, her pose and skinning; she could be optimised more. I would have liked to have given her a base, etc, etc. This is the case with something that has been worked on over such a long period of time... But no!! NO more!! She needed to be laid to rest!! I think If I had worked on her any longer I would have gone nuts.

Anyway saying all that she is most likely going to be my last real-time character. You can see more of her on my website: http://www.unearthedart.com/personal.htm

I've already made some progress with another character - I'm currently texturing the base skin, which is roughly 90% done! WOOO!

More updates soon... hopefully...

Gary Newman Texturing Showreel 2012

Gary Newman Texturing Showreel 2012 [HD - public] from Gary Newman on Vimeo.

I'm finally getting to post this. The work in this reel is made up from the past 3 years of work whilst I was at MPC and Cinesite.

I've delayed finishing my reel for some time now as I haven't really needed it, until now. My contract at Cinesite is up so I'm looking for a new gig. I also have a private reel online which I cannot show yet. But if you're a prospective employer get in touch with me and I'll send you the URL and password for that showreel.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 VFX Breakdown

Some of  the texture work that I did for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 whilst I was MPC last year. I textured the caravan (1:25 minutes into this clip). Unfortunately the digi-double that I also textured isn't really very visible in the film - I spent around 3 weeks texturing him :(

Some more Photoshop nudes

Just a couple of quick drawings done in Photoshop using some photo reference for the pose of the first one. The second one was sort of a loose copy of a photo.

I've really been enjoying drawing again lately. I think I'll be doing loads more of these in between doing my 3D (yes, I'm doing 3D). I'm still getting the hang of drawing again (in Photoshop) and developing a bit of a style in the process. That and having fun.

Punk Girl to follow soon...

Painting nudes...

It's been a while I know, between sorting out some tattoos for my Punk Girl and planning multiple new 3D characters, I've been getting back into some Photoshop painting again. I want to try get quite a few of these "quick" studies done. I really enjoy doing these and they do go reasonably quick... well quick in comparison to a 3D character of mine that is. Not sure if I'll add them to Unearthedart or not.

I used a photo as ref for this one. Just as a base for the main figure, expression, etc.

edit: I fixed up her right breast as the nipple was bothering me.

Girl Bust 01 finished

I'm finally calling her finished... There are areas (especially the hair) that could still be worked on, but this was meant to be a quick sculpt of about 5-6 hours which became a bit more than that... so, time to move on.

Oh yeah... the headphones are loosely based on the Panasonic Retro Style Monitor Headphones.

I have a couple of ideas for my next bust...
